Product Details

"Cadeau" or "The Gift" is one of the key works of the Dada and Surrealist movement. This iron loses its usefulness by having a row of 14 spikes attached to its surface, giving rise to a new and unnamed object. This is the main thought that Man Ray makes in his "ready mades" like the one presented here.

With this "Cadeau", the artist gives a speech about how everyday objects can be strange and disturbing with only a slight alteration of their appearance, defying the laws of logic and breaking the connection between words and objects.

This work is mentioned in the book "Objet de mon affection", published by Philippe Sers with an introduction by Jean-Hubert Martin, Paris, 1983.
