Murakami created Mr. DOB in 1996 and this one has been the main subject in many of the artist's works since then. It's a complex character with many faces. It's Murakami's alter ego loaded with manga influence that the artist brings closer to the Western world with the image (those huge ears can only remind us of the unique Mickey Mouse). Mr. DOB also winks the dada movement as DOB is the contraction of "dobojite, dobojite" the dada-like phrase meaning "why, why".
