Luis Rodriguez Gordillo was born in 1934 in Seville. After earning his law degree he studied at the School of Fine Arts in the same city.
In 1958 he travelled to Paris where gets deeply immersed in informalism, following the footsteps of other artists like Dubuffet or Tapiès. Soon after Gordillo learn meets Pop art, learning new plastic media to express himself, in fact, he is considered to be one of the best Spanish artists to perform this movement.
With the discovery and practice of psychoanalysis, Gordillo is interested in the meaning of things, how everything is connected with the mind and personal experiences and how this is reflected in the aesthetic expression. All these elements make this artist's style based on his own complex language which combines abstraction with references to reality, imagined elements, symbolic or narrative.
