Mr. Brainwash is the artistic nickname of French filmmaker Thierry Guetta.
MBW began filming documentaries about Obey's (Shepard Fairey) street art in 1999, and through this artist he could meet Banksy. Since then, MBW has recorded hours of the work created by these two graffiti artists, following them through the streets, with the risk that entails.
Since his introduction to Banksy, MBW has artistically evolved from being the observer to become the artist. His first solo show, titled "Life is Beautiful", took place in Los Angeles in June 2008, where he showed about 100 works and gathered a large number of fans who made a long line on the opening day.
His creations make a reference to the many artists that have marked his work such as Duchamp, Pollock and Robert Indiana, and to his undoubtedly biggest influence, Warhol. Mr. Brainwash uses icons of consumer culture and celebrity figures and mixes them up with pop art and graffiti.
According Banksy's own words "Mr. Brainwash is a force of nature, he is a phenomenon. And I do not mean that in the good way."
